“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give”
Winston Churchill
DBI believes in “Giving Back”, but was never quite sure of the best way in which we could contribute.We have been inspired by our Customers, Suppliers and others and wanted to do something meaningful; rather than just making a donation of money, whilst worthwhile, somehow lacked involvement.
As a result, we have made a particular and ongoing cash commitment to “Kiva”(www.kiva.org), which is an international organisation dedicated to funding new business ideas in the third world countries.The loans are ultimately redeployed in more new ventures.We believe supporting and encouraging ideas and their growth, which is aligned to our ideals as a business, and at the same time gives others in less fortunate circumstances, a chance at pursuing their ambitions in a positive way.
DBI donates to “The Sunflower Club” of the Schizophrenia Fellowship of NSW Inc (www.sfnsw.org.au).The Club aims to provide stable funding for essential programs and services for people living with a mental illness.
Bridgewater Candle Company, who we represent in Australasia, has implemented an everyday program to contribute to “Rice Bowls”(www.ricebowls.org), whereby the company donates US$0.75 for each jar candle sold, and in addition has a special edition seasonal candle available whereby US$5.25 will be given to support Rice Bowls.Those same terms apply to all Bridgewater Candles we sell in Australasia.Bridgewater Candle Company also provides office space, call centre support, warehousing and distribution services free of charge to Rice Bowls.
Rice Bowls started in 1980 in Spartanburg, USA as a non profit organisation seeking to provide food for orphans throughout the world.This movement was in response in part to the growing global orphan crisis perpetuated by the HIV / AIDS epidemic.
DBI also supports the following organisations, by the direct contribution of goods;
